James Owens

Jim Owens is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Ill. After joining the company in 1972 as a corporate economist, he has held numerous management positions. Mr. Owens was recently appointed to the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Under his leadership, Caterpillar recently ranked among the top 50 places for minority engineers to work. Caterpillar ranked sixth on the list. Caterpillar has committed more than $55 million to the Peoria Riverfront Museum, including complete funding for its Caterpillar Experience, $1.2 million toward the parking structure and $13.5 million toward the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
Jim Owens has expressed strong support for The Block and the quality of life enhancements it will bring to the area. Jim expressed that the project is a real centerpiece for Caterpillar’s headquarters city and just what we need to attract people from all over the world to live and work here.
James Owens, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Caterpillar Inc., is this year’s inaugural Joshua Smith Corporate Diversity Award recipient. The purpose of the award is to recognize and honor individuals and/or companies that have demonstrated a commitment to developing a diverse and inclusive workplace.
