2009 Hall of Fame Inductee:

Omega “Skippy” Jackson

Photo not available

A licensed Barber, Omega “Skippy” Jackson served the community for over 50 years.  A Korean War veteran, Skippy was known for his strong character and as a role model for children and adults.  Skippy, whether knowingly or not, taught his patrons about self worth, honesty, education, family, church and country through barbershop testimonies, stories, jokes and lots of humor.  Skippy and Floyd’s is known to be one of the longest running African American businesses in Peoria.

Omega “Skippy” Jackson is being posthumously inducted and is this year’s Community Service honoree.  As a licensed Barber, Mr. Jackson served Peoria for over 50 years.  Not only was he a Barber, but a Facilitator; actively engaging customers and encouraging them to talk about a multitude of issues.  His counsel was part of the glue that kept communities and families together.
